Indego Africa: Empowering Women
I am all about educating and empowering women around the world. I am a strong believer that if women are educated they can help their families out of poverty. I came across Indego Africa when I was looking for baskets bags for the summer. Instead of purchasing a designer woven basket bag, why not buy one that will do good for a life right?
Small Spark, Big Impact
At Indego Africa, focuses on uplifting artisan women in Africa through employment opportunities and education. Their mission is to inspire artisans to help their families out of poverty and become empowered businesswomen. They work with 27 groups (over 1,000 women) in Rwanda and Ghana to sell products that are handcrafted in Africa. Indego Africa focuses on combining traditional African techniques, materials and skill. The company partners with fair income for the women, which helps enables them to care for themselves and their family as well.
“We are firm believers in the saying that the people closest to a problem, are closest to its solution. Through the power of education, our partners are building the skills to break cycles of poverty for themselves and create the change they wish to see in their communities.” Indego Africa
Indego Africa also publishes an “Impact Report” on their artisan partners. They said when first collecting data in 2008, artisans used their incime for food, electricity and housing. But now (9 years later) women have enough income to spend on school fees for children, home improvements, business and investments in livestock and land.
